MTS Joins Ben Franklin Technology Partners’ FabNet Program

For many new businesses, a working prototype is the key that gains entry to the marketplace.

That’s why Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern PA (BFTP) started the FabNet program. Entrepreneurs in need of funds to build a prototype can apply for a grant to fund a prototype created with a network of experienced product designers and manufacturers hand-selected by BFTP. Matching-funds grants of up to $5,000 are available to entrepreneurs in the area served by BFTP (the Greater Philadelphia region) to be used with FabNet participating facilities.

MTS is one of six facilities participating in the first round of FabNet, the other partners are Boston DeviceCreative Mechanisms, EFE Laboratories, Inteprod, and NextFab Studio.

The need for new businesses to pair up with experienced manufacturers for prototyping is huge; new technologies, practices, and materials arrive on the scene frequently and an understanding of best practices can hasten the process and reduce costs.

Matt Sommerfield, founder of MTS had this to say: “I’m excited for MTS to be part of the network and look forward to the introduction to new entrepreneurs in neighboring counties to help them realize their dream.”
